How Dance changed my life

Dance has always been a part of human culture, rituals and celebrations.  Dancing is an enjoyable way to be more physically active and stay fit. For some it is a career and way of life.
For me, I started dancing lessons at age 9 when my sister found a flyer to try a local class of ballet and tap. I was curious to say the least and can honestly say, after begging mom to let us try a class, that decision changed my life forever.
Since that very first ballet class at the Legion Hall in Laguna Beach, I knew dance would be a part of my life somehow, some way!
I was blessed to have a teacher who took notice of my natural drive and potential to learn, and my teacher even offered free lessons to me just to keep me coming to class when times were harder for my parents to pay for lessons. Thanks to the generous heart of my first dance teacher for seeing something in me, that spark and ability to learn quickly- my life direction was somehow put in place like a perfect puzzle piece and synced with a life purpose at a very early age. Because of my love for movement, for discipline, and music and bringing it all to life as an expression through my body, dance became like food for a starving soul.
The way dance felt in my heart, the way dancing made me feel in my body, to stretch beyond my ideas of what I was able to do, and push past the pains and aches to grow. To work towards something positive was a perfect metaphor for life.  It helped me develop my ability to go from awkward un-sure little girl to grace and confidence in myself. And no matter how much bullying or mean kid experiences I may have had to face, I always had dance to light my way and help me keep my head high.
Dance became my heart and soul, my best friend and something that kept me out of trouble in my teenage years :).
It was a thing I would wait all week to experience again and again- awaiting anxiously to see my teacher and fellow students. To see if my technique had improved in one weeks time, what new routine would we be learning, and hopefully become better at the choreography and craft.
My mother could not deny the sparkle in my eyes when I would tell her stories about class that week, and what songs we were dancing to, or how hard or easy the steps were for me.
My parents encouraged me to dance, and even put up with the noise when I would put on my tap shoes and tap all day and night at the house next door that was under construction with the perfect wood flooring to tear up. Dancing away on a perfect flat wood floor just me and my taps, dancing to the sounds of the ocean crashing. Life was perfect at the wood skeleton of a house that over looked the beautiful ocean skyline. I would dance until the orange sun rays disappeared behind the ocean floor.
My heart was full and all reality of time and space completely disappeared for me when I danced.
Dance was my soul and the love of my life. I became dance- and dance became me!
How blessed I felt that I was able to utilize my dance into my later career as a performer and to this day I call upon my choreography experience to produce dance shows for my companies.
Today I hire professional dancers and choreographers for many events, corporate parties, Gatsby theme parties, private parties. I LOVE that just like my 1st dance teacher Pauline, I too can help ignite a dream for other dancers. With my talent agency, I can watch dancers live their dream and fulfill a hope to share their beautiful gifts with the world.
What moves me most now days, is to see my daughter with that same sparkle in her eyes when she is in class dancing.
Dance has come full circle for me- and my hope is that the circle continues.
Dance is far more than something you do for an hour or two in a class room.
Dance is an energy within each of our bodies that should be expressed in whatever form it can. Dance is very much a passion within each of us that needs an outlet to strive and survive.
There is no such thing as “I don’t know how to dance”.
Each of us have our own unique dial that we can tune into and allow to release through our bodies if we just have the courage to.
So I encourage each of you to “dance like no one is watching”- your heart and soul will thank you!
If you don’t believe me that dance will make you a happier, more vibrant person- check out the health benefits that are statistically proven;
  • improved condition of your heart and lungs
  • increased muscular strength, endurance and motor fitness
  • increased aerobic fitness
  • improved muscle tone and strength
  • weight management
  • stronger bones and reduced risk of osteoporosis
  • better coordination, agility and flexibility
  • improved balance and spatial awareness
  • increased physical confidence
  • improved mental functioning
  • improved general and psychological wellbeing
  • greater self-confidence and self-esteem
  • better social skills.

There is a style for everyone…

  • Ballet – mostly performed to classical music, this dance style focuses on strength, technique and flexibility.
  • Ballroom dancing – this involves a number of partner-dancing styles such as the waltz, swing, foxtrot, rumba and tango.
  • Belly dancing – originating in the Middle East, this dance style is a fun way to exercise.
  • Hip-hop – performed mostly to hip-hop music, this urban dance style can involve breaking, popping, locking and freestyling.
  • Jazz – a high-energy dance style involving kicks, leaps and turns to the beat of the music.
  • Pole dancing – has become increasingly popular as a form of exercise. It involves sensual dancing with a vertical pole, and requires muscle endurance, coordination, and upper- and lower-body strength.
  • Salsa – involving a mixture of Caribbean, Latin American and African influences, salsa is usually a partner dance and emphasises rhythms and sensuality.
  • Square-dancing – a type of folk dancing where four couples dance in a square pattern, moving around each other and changing partners.
  • Tap dancing – focuses on timing and beats. The name originates from the tapping sounds made when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch the ground

Love that retro Glamor Girl look like our Bella’s Dolls?

Loving that Vintage glam Pin-Up Inspired look? check out this wonderful Makeup Tutorials for Retro Looks by the wonderful Azalea Pena

Mrs Bella's DollsSMLXL

Vintage and retro are back in style (but then again, were they ever not?)! To help you master the glamour and style of the 50’s, we’ve put together this vintage-inspired makeup and hair tutorial! Now every day can be a pinup girl day!

Makeup Tutorial | Vintage-Inspired Makeup

Get this look now!

I’m sure we can all agree that the pinup look is one of the best looks around. It’s feminine, strong, and in today’s day, unique. This look is great for any day and occasion and, if it’s not your usual daily wear, is fun to play around in and dress up with.

Let’s start channeling your inner Bettie Page!

Step 1 – Vintage-Inspired Makeup

Apply highlighter for a radiant glow.

Apply highlighter on the apples of your cheeks and under the arch of your eyebrows to create a healthy, natural-looking glow. To highlight the inner corners of your eyes, use a shimmery cream eyeshadow.

Step 2 – Vintage-Inspired Makeup

Contour your cheeks with a bronzer.

Using a bronzer, contour your cheeks to highlight your cheekbones.

Step 3 – Vintage-Inspired Makeup

Apply blush on the apples of your cheeks.

Apply a baby-pink blush on the apples of your cheeks.

Step 4 – Vintage-Inspired Makeup

Apply eyeshadows on the eyelids.

Using a neutral palette, pick the eyeshadow color closest to your skin tone and apply it on your eyelids. Next, pick the lightest shade and apply it on the inner corner of your eyes and below your eyebrows’ arch (on top of the highlighter you applied earlier).

Step 5 – Vintage-Inspired Makeup

Using brown eyeshadow, use your eyeshadow brush and focus at the base of the crease to achieve a gradient look.

Using a medium-to-dark brown eyeshadow, create a deep crease and diffuse it with an eyeshadow brush.

Step 6 – Vintage-Inspired Makeup

Create a winged eyeliner.

With an eyeliner pencil (we prefer liquid, but use whichever you feel most comfortable with), create your winged eyeliner look. Learn how to do winged eyeliner here.

Step 7 – Vintage-Inspired Makeup

Apply wax underneath the eyebrows to create a defined edge

Frame and define your eyebrows using wax and fill them in as necessary.

Step 8 – Vintage-Inspired Makeup

Apply flirty faux eyelashes.

To make your eyes really stand out, use false eyelashes. Dont’ be afraid; the pinup girl look is about channeling your feminine energy and going all out!

Step 9 – Vintage-Inspired Makeup

Apply your favorite shade of red lipstick!

To finish your makeup look off, apply bold red lipstick. Tip: applying lip tint before the lipstick will help the color stay vibrant for a longer period of time.

Step 1 – Vintage-Inspired Hair

Section hair and divide evenly.

Now it’s time to make some victory rolls! To get started, create a side part and then section your hair from your hairline to your ears (~ 3 inches) on both sides. Pull the rest of your hair back to make sure it doesn’t get mixed in with the part that you’ve sectioned off.

Step 2 – Vintage-Inspired Hair

Grabbing small sections, curl your hair in the same direction.

Now it’s time to curl your hair! When curling, be sure to create the curls away from your face and only grab small sections at a time. After you’ve curled your sections, secure the curls with a pin or clip.

Step 3 – Vintage-Inspired Hair

Once the hair cools down, remove the pins and apply hairspray to help keep the curls in place.

Once you’ve finished curling your hair, remove the clips/pins to let your hair loose.

Step 4 – Vintage-Inspired Hair

Comb the hair and apply hairspray to tame frizz.

Comb your curls to smooth them out and apply hairspray to tidy up any loose ends (or hairs).

Step 5 – Vintage-Inspired Hair

Create victory rolls.

We’re almost there! This is the last step to your pinup girl look. To create victory rolls, roll your hair twice around your fingers to create a donut shape (mmm, donuts). Once your donut is formed, secure it with a pin and move on to your next victory roll.

Ta-da – Vintage Inspired Makeup and Hair

Now you’re ready for the pinup girl calendar!

You’re all set to go!

It takes a team!

Do you know what is takes to make your party happen!?
When booking an event or casting for a show, much time and ground work is involved no matter the size of the booking scale.
We know all too well that in one booking there are many facets of the design. When we get the call from our client, we immediately begin the planning stages to bring a vision to life. And within that vision is an entire crew of experts to make that dream a reality.
It begins with our leader Bella who discusses the wants and needs of the client typically over the phone or through many e-mail conversations. Bella makes sure she is crystal clear on how and what the client is hoping to create for their event or film project. After numerous communications between client and Bella, the creative process begins.
Bella maps out details in precise formation with swatches of fabrics, hand written drawings that map out each idea, costume, look, color scheme, and style of entertainment requested.
What is needed for each request? Bella gets many calls from casting directors or for film or tv project where big named casting companies rely on Bella’s savvy casting abilities to find that “impossible to find” actor or model.
Perhaps someone is planning a Great Gatsby Party or another themed entertainment where there are a lot of pieces to the puzzle- and need someone with years of experience and a strong talent pool to put together the night.
Many times events need personal, professional writers to map out the script and dialogue.
Bella then begins to make the calls to her well thought out team of experts whom will begin the creating process right with her. Dance captain and choreographer Tonya Vivian will begin the visuals of what she will start to choreograph while musical director Irby Gascon starts mapping out the sound, sound track and all of the PA and musical aspects of the event. With the choreographer and music director in place, the creative part of the process is ready.
Tonya will carefully hand select the dancers and begin mapping out the choreography. The dancers are picked by their technique of dance, and stage presence and ability to bring the client’s vision to life. The dancers are cast by Bella on their ability, look and most importantly their integrity to work as a team and represent Tribute Productions in the most professional way. The dance team is a group of working professional dancers who all come together to make the performance a success.
Many times other professional experts are brought in to help with any props, red carpets, lighting or atmosphere entertainment that Tribute is so well known for. For every event, Bella will custom costume all of the performers. She will work with her client and even create custom product branding on all of her custom costumes.
There is an in-house seamstress to help with custom costuming in which Bella works directly one on one with to map out costuming and to make sure each stitch is exactly as needed.
Musicians, actors, and specialty talents may be called to fill in all the missing pieces of the event theme.
Many times a specific casting call may need to happen to cast a model, or Hollywood double to fit the role of the booking.
Then there is a crew that will help load everything into the event and help pack it all up.
All in one night work!
They say “it takes a village” and in the case of booking a live event, casting for a TV show, putting together a party or even just a very small personal appearance- the team of experts it takes to make an event “the most memorable” really does rely on our team of the best.
We are proud to say how good we feel knowing we put our clients in the best hands possible to not only bring their vision to life, but to make and create that life into their vision!262298_1638670987024_1844275873_1018819_2295916_n-2
